There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is not allowed. Eight casinos are situated in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge casino, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that contains many amenities aside from the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
