There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
